The 2021 Appalachia Prep Combine Unsigned Senior Showcase was the first time we saw Class of 2024 OT/DE – Nic Watson in action. At the time Nic was a freshman at the Virginia Powerhouse football program – E.C. Glass High School going up against Division I bound seniors. Midway through the 1 vs. 1 session, Nic got a bloody nose. Most kids in his predicament would have taken the easy pass out and joined their parents for the remainder of the combine to avoid the fierce competition. However, Watson stuck a piece of tissue up his nose and took the next rep. So, it’s no surprise that Watson has been kicking butt early on this season.
When asked about how the first four games have gone for his team, Nic responded, “ Right now we’re 4 and 1 , but we should be 5 and 0. We came into this season as underdogs, but we beat the state runner up [Lord Botetourt], which was a big game that jumped us up in the rankings. We held a VT commit in check which was all around good for the whole team.
Footwork and mobility as a lineman are two of the traits that Watson believes makes him an elite lineman. Adding some weight to his 6’3 frame is one of his goals this off-season. Although Watson is being recruited as an OT, we have seen enough of him to know he is a legitimate defensive line recruit also. In fact, Nic states that Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle – Aaron Donald, is his favorite NFL player.
Many college programs have yet to discover this unique talent out of Lynchburg, VA, however, Watson did attend summer football camps at VT, Liberty, and JMU. Schools listed in his top three are VT, Liberty, and ODU. Watson is interested in Religious Studies for his major. His current GPA is 3.1.
Although the E.C. Glass football program is young, Watson is still optimistic of his team’s chances of playing for a state title, “If we can make it deep in the playoffs, we will have a shot at the state championship”.
